What is the Chupacabra?
The Chupacabra is a creature from stories that began in Puerto Rico in the 1990s. Farmers said their animals had been drained of blood with strange puncture marks on the bodies. The name means “goat-sucker” in Spanish.
What does it look like?
Descriptions of the Chupacabra vary. Some say it looks like a reptile with spikes on its back. Others say it looks like a hairless dog with huge teeth and glowing eyes. The different stories make it hard to know what the creature should really look like.
Is it real?
Scientists usually say that attacks blamed on the Chupacabra were caused by wild animals like coyotes, dogs, or foxes. The strange wounds may have come from ordinary predators. Still, the Chupacabra became a dramatic story that spread around the world.
